DesktopBSD 1.7 snapshot

First remember it’s an early snapshot, so there will be certainly some problems! But apart from that it’s DesktopBSD based on FreeBSD 7.0R. I did a first test, there are some minor quirks with the mounting tool and the scheduler is SCHED_4BSD, so it has got a performance drop especially on uniprocessor systems. The first preview version will follow soon with SCHED_ULE activated and some other useful addons. So if you’re eager to test, you’re welcome
But remember it’s an early test!
You can download the snapshots there (scroll to the bottom) at the usual servers (mirror too). We have prebuild packages for FreeBSD7 on the server.

I hope that this will become DesktopBSD 2.0, with FreeBSD 7 and KDE 4.

KDE 4.1 will be out in summer first, so no there will be first a release with FreeBSD 7 and without KDE 4.

Yeah, i agree with zaratustra..
DesktopBSD 2.0 with FreeBSD 7 and KDE 4 would be a good name.
Other distros with minor kde and freebsd 7 could remain 1.x
I’m downloading it. I like the new freebsd 7 innovations although Linux still catch the eye..
One good improvement would be the wireless stuff.. however, since bsd is still server oriented, i guess this new multicore-system they developed is very good.
Lovely to website servers.
Impressive effort to improve database performance.
nice way to go.
I expect to see DesktopBSD 2.0
Good Páscoa
