Irregular snapshot builds

Some of you may have noticed that in addition to the weekly snapshots, there are irregular, “special” snapshot builds on our FTP server. These snapshots appear when the build is manually started by a developer, usually after a change is made that requires an up-to-date snapshot ISO to be tested. For example, the snapshot build on 2007/11/24 was started because the installer’s boot menu installation routine was updated to use FreeBSD’s boot menu when GRUB is not available (which is the case on amd64). To test this new behavior, a new ISO with an installer that incorporates these changes was required. Another reason to start a build manually is to verify snapshot builds still work properly after changes to the build scripts or infrastructure, like the ones that were made last week.
