Please post if you have and it would be interesting to know what you are running (esp. graphics).

I tried it on a laptop with Radeon Xpress 200M and X started however keyboard and mouse were dead. Same situation is with 20090404 snapshot.

Hello, I've tested 5 snapshot-ISO's under VMware workstation 6.5.
I installed DesktopBSD in a default virtual machine with guest OS FreeBSD 64 bits. The virtual memory is 1024 MB.

AMD ISO's

1: DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090222.iso
This older snapshot works perfect. DesktopBSD is running very fast and stable. I've installed some extra software without any problems: VMware tools, Opera, PAN newsreader and aMule

2: DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090329.iso
X.org cannot find any screen layout configuration during initializing the graphical environment

3: DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090404.iso
X.org cannot find any screen layout configuration during initializing the graphical environment

4: DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090411.iso
X.org can find the right screen layout configuration but the mouse pointer and keyboard are not working after initialization.

I installed DesktopBSD in a default virtual machine with guest OS FreeBSD 32 bits. The virtual memory is 1024 MB.

i386 ISO

5: DesktopBSD-1.7-i386-SNAPSHOT-20090404.iso
X.org cannot find any screen layout after initializing the graphical environment

20090301 worked somewhat - then worse and worse. I'm wondering if it is another case of xorg screwing up or if the builds are being made for different equipment than what we have tried.

I guess it is xorg to blame. I have problems with xorg on latest PCBSD and linux distros (at least on intel i810)

Is there a way to use xfree86 instead of xorg?

Hello,

I've done two more tests with the latest ISO's in a VMWare Virtual machine.
1. DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090418.iso
2. DesktopBSD-1.7-i386-SNAPSHOT-20090418.iso

Problem with these ISO's are the same as last week "DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090411.iso"
X.org can find the right screen layout configuration but the mouse pointer and keyboard are not working after initialization.

Here are the testresults in a VMWare Virtual Machine for:

1. DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090425.iso
2. DesktopBSD-1.7-i386-SNAPSHOT-20090425.iso

Same as last week. Still not possible to use mouse and keyboard after finding the right screen layout during setup.

Anyone with different results?

I tried FreeBSD 7.2 RC2 with X + xfce package, same results :) Then switched to non-grafical console, installed links (non-graphical web browser) and began to search. What I found, that I needed to install two packages - hal and dbus, and then add two lines to /etc/rc.conf (just $su , then #ee /etc/rc.conf ) -
hald_enable="YES"
dbus_enable="YES"
After restart of X'es mouse and keyboard began to work :)

I hope (but not sure) that both they are present, you just have to enable them in /etc/rc.conf. Anyway, if you want to add a package:
#pkg_add -r hal
or
#pkg_add -r dbus
or you can install via port
#whereis dbus
dbus: /usr/ports/devel/dbus
#cd /usr/ports/devel/dbus && make install distclean

The new 20090509 snapshot now has DBUS and HAL enabled, I would appreciate some feedback on this.

Hello Peterh,
For snapshots:
1. DesktopBSD-1.7-amd64-SNAPSHOT-20090509.iso
2. DesktopBSD-1.7-i386-SNAPSHOT-20090509.iso
It is still not possible to use mouse and keyboard after finding the right screen layout during setup.

However I saw some intesting error messages during installation:

It starts after the two GEOM_LABEL: messages

Code:
Clearing /tmp (X related).
Starting local deamons:.
Updating motd.
Mounting late file systems:.
Starting default moused:.
Starting dbus.
Unknown username "polkit" in message bus configuration file
Unknown username "haldaemon" in message bus configuration file
Unknown username "avahi" in message bus configuration file
Failed to start the message bus: Could not get UID and GID for username "messagebus"

chmod: /var/cache: No such file or directory
Starting hald.
Configuring syscons: blanktime.

I hope this is some help for you.......

I tried "DesktopBSD-1.7-i386-SNAPSHOT-20090509.iso" At the beginning i faced the same problem mouse and keyboard not working after searching for solution i found that i have to add:
Code:
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off"

to the
ServerLayout section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf
after restarting of X'es mouse and keyboard started to work
thanks algyzas,
thanks peterh...
