Hi there

I was reading here and there about the new version of DesktopBSD, it seems very nice so far, one strong point for me is the livecd option.

So I would like to ask; Is it possible to boot 1.6 from image on hd?
(ie as in KNOPPINX maybe; the CD image copied to the hd, and can be booted from there anytime later by specifying this in the boot menu)

This is different from the install, and probably will be useful for many people. It would be nice if this option is implemented.

Thx

It should be possible to boot from an image within linux using QEMU, but I couldn't get it to work myself (under FreeBSD).

See the QEMU homepage

See this tutorial on installing windows on Ubuntu because it has lots of good info to get you started.

A perfect howto for FreeBSD.

Well, what I meant is more like in a LiveCD the system use the CD as (read-only) part of the system. It would be more efficient for many, to be able to have that part as image on the hd instead of accessing the CD continuously.

Still, the QEMU howto seems cool, I am going to check it.

QEMU can run an iso file right off the hard drive, that is why I mentioned it. You don't need to use the CD that way. It's very much faster.
