Hi all,
I am trying out DesktopBSD, version 1.6RC3. I am installing it on Intel D815EEA motherboard, with built in graphics. The install CD gets as far as "X configuration seems to have completed sucessfully" (or something like that) and then the screen goes blank. I tried the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, the screen flashes once but remains blank. Anything I can do to get the CD to boot up? I am quite new to BSD.
Thanx.

this seems to be an issue with the RC3 graphics detection, just keep trying the disc and answering to any prompts to try a more usable mode, after a few tries it'll figure itself out.

One of the downsides of a release candidate is that things aren't quite solid :(

I keep going through the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace followed by OK several times, until it tells me something along the lines of "you're screwed, how about a command prompt shell?"

You might like to try the RC2. If not, try a different video card just to get it going and then configure it later. Definately not n00b friendly, but again - it's a release candidate, and if you need any help we're here

Thanx for the help so far. I am going to try RC2. A different video card / machine is not really an option in my case.
Let me ask: I am evaluating this as my next workstation distro. Just to see if I am ready for BSD / BSD is ready for me? Would I be better off waiting until the official release? How long until it is released?

RC2 worked on the first try. Actually, almost everything worked on the first try in RC2 - the only thing that went wrong, I could not install OOo.
So obviously something has changed between RC2 and RC3, and not for the better. :? Is there anything that I can do, to help debug this?
