Hi.
I've a pretty plain test computer, P4 with Matrox MGA G 450 or 550 (don't
remember now).
I was running FreeBSD, Linux and currently NetBSD on it so it's one of the
computers with oldish hardware that just work.
Now, running install of PRERELEASE of DesktopBSD left me with the blue
screen with the "Starting system..." text on.
I could not easly disable it hitting ESC to see where it stops so I
mounted the CD to see what's in loader.conf and ran disable-module bitmap
at boot.
It seems like I had some problems with either the CD media or the CD-Rom
itself.
So I wonder maybe it'd be good idea to have an error message show up if
the installer does not get initialized within given time.
And that again leads me to conclusion that maybe Grub would be better
choise for bootloader instead of the native FreeBSD one.
I am not sure though if grub can be used to mound the rootfs file like the
native loader does. If it does not then rootfs could be instead inserted
into kernel and mounted as memory file system which could extract the rest
of file system (/usr, /var etc) from a separate tarball.
Cheers,
Marcin
