Below solutions to common problems with DesktopBSD's package management tool.
(This has been fixed in DesktopBSD tools 1.0.1)
On first startup I set the Package Manager to find a server automatically. Now I can not change it. The loop is between the “package list required” window and the terminal. Terminal reads as followed.
-------------------------------------------------------------- >>> Running cvsup -------------------------------------------------------------- Connected to cvsup6.us.freebsd.org Server message: Collection "ports-all" release "cvs" is not available here Skipping collection ports-all/cvs Finished successfully INDEX-5.bz2 738 kB 237 kBps -------------------------------------------------------------
The error message means that the server, in this case cvsup6.us.freebsd.org, is broken.
Press [Alt]-[F2] and enter
kdesu kwrite /usr/X11R6/etc/settings/desktopbsdrc
The used server is stored in this configuration file. Remove the whole
cvsup_server=...
line. When starting the package manager the next time, it should prompt you for a server again. You should pick one of the servers from this list: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cvsup.html
